Ok, I have simple query - what are the advantages and disadvantages of X8 over a conventional octo? Seen a few threads about specific issues, but no real explanation of why you would choose this format (I may have missed some threads though!)I imagine an X8 can be made more compact, but won't have as much lift as a normal octo?Additionally, can a V8 fly, and can an APM control one?

Bit of a bump on this one - will be getting into heavier camera's in the future, but don't know whether to go X8 or OCTO, and would like to make a decision soon.
OCTO is the simpliest for me to understand, but X8 is a more practical form factor for transport. But I just don't know what the advantages of the X8 platform are?

8 Octo should be more efficient since all the prop gets clean air
8x is more compact but you need a higher pitch prop on the bottom to accelerate airflow since its in the propwash of the prop above.
