X8 or Y6

I am putting together my first auto-pilot for Agri usage and wonder where to start. I would ideally be able to use smallest frame which can handle visual photo, ndvi and maybe IR camera, plus some sort of telemetry for remote data collection where possible.

  • I am flying the X8+ so far it is great, I picked it due to its lifting capacity of almost 2 pounds, I am also getting over 15 minutes of flight time.  I think payload and flight time will be your two most important parameters, what does all the equipment you need to fly weight, and how will that effect flight time.

  • Depends on the mass of your payload(s) & Consider the lift capabilities of each quad.

I have the DIY 3DR 2014 and it has under 4kg of lift (914g each motor). Recall that the TOTAL weight of the quad (which includes payload(s) and battery) should be less than half the lift capabilities of your quad for optimal flight times and performance.

    • Thanks Keith. I am more on experimental mode now and not sure what all facilities/sensors I would need. Primarily interested in agricultural usage. When you say you are using DIY 3DR 2014, I am assuming you meant Quad kit?
