ABDIAS testing video

We tested ABDIAS before and while a concert.

The goal was to test altitude autopilot (with a lot of people below and draft air) and autonomy, but also wireless control (using xbee modules) from my laptop.

  • Autopilot worked well, holding altitude between 2.00 m and 3.50 m, as asked.
  • Autonomy was correct, with one hour battery life and a consumption of 0.4 A (including 1 sonar, 2 servos, 1 motor, xbee wireless).
  • No problem with the wireless control, even when the blimp is hidden (range : +-100m).

As we expected, one propeller is not enough for the direction autopilot and avoiding collision => will be next step.

I present you ABDIAS, an indoor blimp drone project.

ABDIAS came from the need to create an indoor drone, able to move autonomously, with a large autonomy.

Almost existing blimp drones are radio command, needing the attention of someone, and usually, the envelope is very expensive.

At first, our goal was to plug an autopilot module to any advertising helium balloon (as far as it has enough helium to lift it) to fly it in a conference hall, for example (see our video test on the internet site).
But ABDIAS can be uses too for many indoor purposes, like monitoring or watching.
Unlike robot, it don't care about stairs, and unlike drone-copter, it don't care about touching a wall, or the ceiling.

It would be awesome if you would have a look at my website and support the project ABDIAS with your comments or ideas !
