Nitro Platform

I notice most of the UAV platforms are electric.  Is there a reason there aren't more nitro planes?

 

Do you have an recommendations?  I need a payload of atleast 250 grams after electronics / fuel / etc.

Serial & USB Communication with Red Board

Where on the Red Board can I pick up communication for serial and / or USB?  I'm building my own sensor pack and adding additional processing units.  I'm trying to figure out the best and fastest way to interface the two systems.
