I took some measurements and determined the minimum size of a case which would safely hold my tri, some props and a few spare bits and bats was to find something with an Inner Dimension of 520mm x 200mm x 150mm or larger.
I took to ebay, and found loads of new cases at £70+ and some really nice looking Peli cases at £200+, but nothing for around the £40 mark or lower.
Having grown up in Yorkshire however, my sensibilities told me a box that cost more than £20 is too damn much, even with a fancy la-di-da handle.
So I took to Freecycle, and Gumtree, many weeks passed, until I found a CF Cases flat TV [27"] case for £10 in Leeds.
I made the purchase and headed into Leeds to collect my new case.
I forgot to photograph it before I started ripping the interior out so this was after 3 hours of ripping out hard foam which was glued together in 6x50mm layers.
Armed now with my trusty tape measure I started taking my own measurements... surprisingly the CF Cases guys know what they are doing and I got exactly 570x215x300mm internally [excluding the extra 30mm in the lid].
I made measurements of my Tri, 502x153x120mm folded with props off [I needed another 30mm of length to be able to keep them on].
Armed with my measurements and knowledge that I could buy 600x600x12mm foam sheets from a local shop for not too much I took to Sketchup to do some foam modeling.
The design allows for my TX to sit on top of the Tri with a slot for spare propellers the full height.
I've not finalized the empty area yet, ad I know my FPV goggles wont fit, but I could fit my IFIXIT and Lipos with ease.
Unfortunately I now have a decision to make, my dad works for an avionics company and they occasionally throw out shipping boxes... I never thought to ask, but then he arrived home earlier today with this case made by Alpha systems for transporting delicate instruments.
It's massive, this image is just the bottom half, and it has larger dimensions than the CF Case, and the top half is exactly the same.
