My Bixler UAV project


 Hello everyone,

Today I am going to introduce my UAV Bixler project.

I bought this Bixler airplane from H.King about several months ago and wanted to put pixhawk in it to test how well it can fly autonomously.

After receiving the plane I searched the web to get any information about how to modify the plane. There are many DIY examples on such thing however most of them requires cutting the fuselage half or cutting the entire nose section. I think this is not a good idea because if the airplane suffer from crash, I have to do the same process again. 

So I decided to make a UAV module that fits into the cockpit section of the bixler. Luckily, the bixler has a cockpit like section where a model pilot sits and covered with clear plastic.

Finally I could get following result. A complete UAV cockpit module designed to fit into the Bixler plane.

Following video shows how this module can be assembled. 

All you need are pixhawk with pitot tube and a few M2, M3 sized screws. 

And this design is very helpful reducing the time to prepare for the flight mission.

Just put battery into the fuselage and snap tight the module. That's it.

Introducing AIrVator.

I would like to show you guys my most recent work on conceptual design of a manned drone.


After designing many different kind of mini or micro sized drones myself, I begin to think about making a huge drone as others may already started to make. 

I think 200kg payload should be a must for the drone later however, VTOL or anything hybrid system are only making drone more complex and hard to maintain. So quadrotor best fit to KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) for any industrial and transportation purpose. 

This design is based on 280mm wheel base and about 1/20 or 1/25 size of actual manned drone.

Mantis280 with lowepro drone back pack


Hello all.

I got this lowepro CS300 drone backpack from fry's electronics while traveling in LA, California. 

This back pack is perfect match to my drone project as it can accommodate all the gears and spare parts for not just one but two drones as seen below picture.

5 battery modules are inside the upper band wrapped pocket.

I think the folding mechanism of Mantis280 really gives advantage of moving stuffs compact and easy.

Runcam 2 gimbal more prototype

Hi all. 

I recently updated the runcam2 gimbal for my quadcopter design.

Gimbal mount is compatible with GoPro's slide in and click mount. 

Total weight including runcam2 cam is about 150g without battery.

These days I have been testing gimbal version of the drone. 

Below images are renderings of the gimbal.


Mantis280 now has 2 axis gimbal for RUNCAM2 hd camera. 

It is may be one of the smallest gimbal camera for RUNCAM2. 

Check the video below. 

It still needs some tuning and adjustments but for the size of the drone, I think it works pretty good. 

Overall weight including the gimbal and battery, weight is near 500g total. 

More updates will come.

I just joined this forum with new id to share some info about this new drone project I started. 

This drone named Mantis280 is a 280 size quadcopter with fold-able arm and modular battery.

Modular battery is specially designed to slide into the body by un-folding the arm and fitted to the main connector thus secure both the battery and rear arms.


This battery module will be manufactured by China based company and development is in progress.

Below video will help understand how this work.

This drone is quite small but have enough room to accommodate different FCs including huge Pixhawk.


Below picture shows all the components needed to build this drone and they all can be 3d printed!

I used one of high-end 3d printers for this but I am sure any low-cost 3d printer can print this.


Although it is not fully tested yet, I am sure this platform will be very helpful for some researchers and even some professionals with right controllers. 

I am planning to raise funds to make full product by crowdfunding such as Kickstarter. 

Exact launch date is not fixed yet though, if you like this project please follow us and help raise funds!
