I am a member of a French yahoo group on 3D printing. Today a member posted a link to this nice brushless gimbal that he designed for the GoPro hero3 and posted on Thingiverse. he did not reference the controller he is using but he published the design files here.

If your motor is 160C you have bigger problems then the plastic melting..
Sorry for a gimbal newbie question but wouldn't it be better to put the gopro lens in line with the rollmotor axis?
They are rewound to increase the resistance over the phases, resulting in a very fine control. They are still three phase.
Do these things use standard 3-phase brushless motors or are they wound as single-phase LAT's (Limited Angle Torque motor)?
