    Thanks for the link to that very interesing paper. For those who want the short form, they used a SIG Rascal plane, a commercial CloudCap Piccolo autopilot (and very nice autostabalized gimbal camera) and wrote their own ground-based image processing software in LabView. Total cost: around $40,000..
