Imagery is everything!

I have joined this group in the hopes that I will be able to learn more about UAVs. I would like to be able to utilize them in search and rescue. Often we have no good imagery or even maps of areas that we have searches for lost people. It would be great if we could get imagery from a UAV and make it available to rescue personel to assist in search efforts.

  • Hi Gary, not sure what they are using, I believe the civil aviation wing is flying around. Have you ever flown in the Western Cape? I used to be with an anti-poaching unit and it would have been useful then to have had a UAV. Would most probably have to have done all the flying at night though.

Funnily enough I have a friend in the Drakensberg South Africa with exactly the same requirement. We were thinking of launching a flying wing with simple camera equipment just to have a look at the next ridge as it were.

I wonder if the US are using grown up UAV's to look for Steve Fossett, would make good training exercise.
