Not to put you on the spot, but if no laws exist and you didn't sign anything and its supposed to be public...what is holding you back from blowing the whistle on what is happening behind closed doors? What is the worst that can happen...they don't give you a COA? :)
The FAA has consistently shown that they are NOT the friends of those in the small business AP/FPV community. Unless you have LOTS of money (and money means political clout) then you are beneath their interest. Patrick has been lobbying for MONTHS now to be allowed to make public who the ARC players are, and what is going on behind the closed doors as well. He has been told over and over again that privacy issues are involved, and that nothing can be discussed outside of the conference calls and live meetings. These are supposed to be public officials and meetings, and as such seem to be covered under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Anyone should be able to gain access to the information the FAA is supposedly generating. Has anyone else out there even tried to obtain this information from the FAA? Having already submitted my share of FOIA requests to the FAA, I know how they can stonewall and thwart the process to keep from providing the information that by law should be made available. I hope others have better luck. Keep up the good fight Patrick, at least someone is doing something besides blaming RCAPA for their problems....
Well, I have to say that I am surprised by the lack of participation/interest from the community. Not that it is unusual by any stretch of the imagination but, I figured people would be a little bit more involved/interested with what is at stake.
I’m not playing nice and to be frank, if I was in dire straits and needed a COA (or any other dispensation from the FAA), I doubt very seriously I get it.
I concur (as do others), and have asked repeatedly that they go public with at least the affiliations. To be fair, privacy concerns were raised by participants. I like tea...
Why all the partial secrecy? Why ANY secrecy? It's not military work, its civilian regulation development. Even your local school board has open meeting laws to guard against abuse of the system. It is always easy for the big money groups to hide behind the closed doors and make more money for themselves. Too bad the FAA is letting it happen like this. You probably want to play nice so you can stay informed and on the ARC, but the American way is supposed to be that you dump the tea in the water, right? :)
No can do. I am not at liberty to discuss exactly what is happening, and we were asked not to divulge the names and or affiliations of the other participants. Makes for some easy fundraising…
No you are probably facing off against: OAPA, ALPA, FAA, NASA, HAI and finally the AMA......put the members email addresses up and we will start a letter writing campaign.
You don’t have to remind me. Who do you think we’re up against in the ARC, Elmer Fudd? Understand, I am a proponent of this technology, but we aren’t exactly in there calling the shots. This is a big undertaking against moneyed interests that have plenty of political clout.
If we have to wait for a certified sense and avoid system to fly small UAS under 30lbs the civilian market in the US may as well pack up and head to Canada or Australia now.
As such I am changing my icon so every time you come on this site it will remind you (as a member of the sUAS ARC) that those two countries are leaving the USA in the dust when it comes to civilian use of small UAS systems.
We do, fully autonomous (no pilot in the loop), will not be supported until we have a certified sense and avoid system. From the Slow Stick to the Global Hawk...
