Concept Overview
Concept Drawing/Rough Draft Sketch

This is a concept idea that I want to share with you folks. It's still very much a rough draft until I receive all the pieces and parts I ordered. So please bear with me and my not so artistic drawings/sketches :)

@ Joshua without actually designing the machine for you it is a compromise you have to keep the wight down for it to fly you need wheels so it will run on land and you need enough buoyancy so it will float any thing below the water . will cause drag and to put in an efficient underwater propulsion system it will add considerable weight . you have an efficient propulsion system making it fly you just need to tilt the rotors sideways and a means of flotation like other fellow on here has with the lunch box quad and extent the wheels out side and with a air rudder for for steering and you have an air boat (like the ones in the swamp in Florida ) when you hit the beach the wheels take over and it is an air powered car tilt the rotors back up right and it is a air craft twin heli . since you are using 2 propellers when they fold over to power the craft in land and sea mode without having the thrust from one interfering. with the other The propellers fold to the side and a air rudder (or 2 )springs up for steering and in land and sea mode the craft travels side ways or the motors could be mounted on a boom or mini wing across the vehicle and just rotate up and down or the motors could be on a boom mounted on a servo in the center of the vehicle rotate 90 degrees across the vehicle then rotate 90 degrees side ways the center of gravity will be a factor . Start Building! it will come to you as go along . that is what I do I do every thing twice wrong the first time and when I am building along I come to realize some where in the failure that it is wrong and it is really good practice because I get to do it over again I usually get it right the second or third or forth time (eventually I might give up?)but I will always have the experience and hind sight is 20/20 I look back and know where I went amiss (I should not have got married either "20/20".) Have a great Day!
Thanks so much Carl! Do you have any knowledge on what would be more efficient to propel the vehicle in "Sea Mode" between a Submerged propeller/EDF or one or two EDF's pushing it above water. I'm looking for longer battery life but more importantly efficiency of the Vehicle on water. Also another question about propellers/motors for boats. Would it be efficient to run a couple fans above water and one submerged below the water line?
If you want it to never come apart again without a hammer and chisel use Sikaflex , Bostick or 3/M 5200 the stuff is expensive To keep costs down I would just make sure it is clean and dry use clear silicone. Epoxy goes hard and you have to break it if you ever want to take it apart . a good Marine grade is "West System Epoxy "it is pricey also. I have a R/C boat and I put the electronics in 2 zip lock freezer bags filled with air instead of zipping it up I have all the wires coming out the top bunched up and a gob of silicone around the wires and tywraped shut
you could also rub it with silicone grease (I don't know what effect it would have on the circuits tho ?This is what DIYing is all about trying something different with what you have on hand Good Luck and Have a Great Day!
@Carl, Thank yo so much for all the great Information. When it comes to a good water-proof glue or sealant what would you recommend for a DIYer?! I'm looking for something to make sure that no water gets into the electronics and just something I could pick up at my local hardware store.
Would a water proof epoxy work fine?!
Thanks Again!,
Josh
@Joshua 1 ton 2000 pounds of sea water displaces 32 cubic feet then 2000 divide by 32 = 62.5 pounds so to float
62.5 pounds even. at n3utral buoyancy you need 1 cubic foot of volume any shape 1/ 4 of a cubic foot would float
15.625 pounds neutral buoyancy any shape as long as it adds up to the same number of cubic inches 3''x12''x12'' or 3'' x6'' x24" Build your machine weigh it then figure how you are going to float it (Water bottles for pontoons , pool noodle etc . don't for get the bath tub test ! Have Fun!un ! (
@R. D., Thanks for that comment and support it actually makes me feel a lot better about my sketches and gazillion concepts in the good o'l noggin! :)
@Carl, I'm sure glad I found you! So far with all my testing on this concept during the winter months (Land/Air) everything will work. It's really buoyancy and making sure with all the extra weight that I can maintain an effective vehicle for the water. The great part about living in Minnesota is we have more lakes then anywhere else :) so when this snow melts I'm going to be able to test this concept in very large lakes with pretty large waves. So my biggest concern is how long my drive shafts are going to have to be and how large the wheel are going to have to be to keep it from flipping over. The Biggest concern for right now isn't going to be speed, it's going to be more leaning on effectiveness and functionality for all 3 terrains/conditions.
I'm also adding a camera on the front of the boat to counter some weight so I can get the vehicle to naturally slant forward while in the air like a helicopter would (I want to Mimic the Chinook Heli)
Never apologize for hand sketches.
It is all that we have from L. Da Vinci...
Conceptualize and Build on!

@ Joshua Remember 1 ton sea water displaces 32 cu ft.(Fresh water a bit more ) So when you go for buoyancy bath tub testing your unit will displace the weight of the vehicle in the same volume(weight) of water to float even . neutral buoyancy. For positive buoyancy you need more volume. Since you are small you might like half again or twice the buoyancy .When we build a boat we like a safety factor of 5 times the weight in volume . It is always a compromise . It is one of these projects you don't know what exactly is going to happen until you do it " trial and error?" That is what makes it Exciting! Good Luck .
Thanks! I'm going to do up some CAD Models over the next few days while my parts are being shipped to have a better image to work off of.
