We now have a new update to APM Planner. The major achievement is we now have prebuilt linux builds avaiable for debian and Ubuntu flavours.
See http://ardupilot.com/downloads/?category=35
Functional features include log downloading over MAVLink (no need to go to the Terminal anymore) and .bin dataflash log file support. So if you have large files on an SD card you can just put the card in your computer and copy them before analysis.
There's also numerous bug fixes, thanks to all who have raised these issues to our attention.
Thanks,
AP2 Team.

Maybe I looked in the wrong place! I'll download a fresh build and give it another try. Thanks!
Thanks for the ongoing development work on APM Planner! I currently use Mission Planner in VMware Fusion on my Mac, and while it works OK I'm pleased about the developing native solution. Having a good tuning parameter page is currently the main MP feature holding me to the virtual machine.
Bill, Thanks for confirmation ! I have PCDuino as well which can have full Ubuntu, I can try on that also, do you suggest anything for that as well ?
Is there a sim capability in APM Planner? I use this a lot on my Windows VM.
Thanks for the link Bill, will do.
