No your bang on right, it could lift next to nothing, it looked very good though, much better than my effort!!

Now if I were to do it again, a solar tetrahedron would be the way forward....
  • When it was live there was no idea of the size of the balloon but the way it behaved and assuming it had a 20kg+ kid in it I thought it was quite large as it didn't really look like it had much inertia. As soon as it landed I was suprised it was so small and did a quick and rough calculation, and I might be wrong, but it showed that there wasn't really much surplus lift - if any. although I do stand to be corrected....

Back in 2006 there were similar cases in RSA But no small children were flying them.

  • This was some of the best comedy ever, watching the interview where the kid lets the cat out of the bag is priceless, real awkward silence and then the mum lets off a fart! Brilliant.

Turns out the Dad is a huge UFO nut (hence the UFO shaped balloon) and the family has been on some trashy US reality show called "Wife Swap", twice. Apparently in one episode he claims to have invented perpetual motion.

Those articles just don't do it justice at all, watch the very awkward video:

Here's one of his many UFO rants, too funny.

Poor kid, if being called Falcon wasn't bad enough.
