Local quad "expert" asserts that there will be a series of major incidents worldwide using "drones" in the next 6 months.

CAA (NZ) says drone technology has outpaced its regulations and it needs to move with haste to get new rules in place to keep our air space both safe and under some sort of control.

  • Haha, that stick flicking caught my attention as well. I've only seen that when I taught someone to fly for the first time.

If you're stick flicking a multi-rotor, you have no real control. Also, only experts fly BNF quads.

The sad part is that while we can all see how big of a joke this guy is, the average public watching this on TV probably don't see how sensationalized this is and take it very seriously, thus feeding the paranoia.

  • Watched the clip, and couldn't believe what that guy is telling the media.

One thing that caught my attention, when they show the close up of him steering the copter you can see how he controls that thing. From my experience watching people new to the RC-Hobby thats exactly how they looked like when not being familiar with their equipment.
    A terrible example of a self-proclaimed "expert".

Lets all try to bee good examples and highlight the god uses of this technology.

Agriculture, Rescue, Photography that doesn't ignore the right for privacy, recreation,....
i've learned so much about micro controllers just because multiwii draw me from helicopters to multi-rotors and using APM now for some time.
Safety always depends on the people who use things. Why does the media has such a focus on bad things (e.g. 3D Printing Guns) when there is so much opportunity for the good?

  • And the google ad next to the article...  "DJI Phantom!"  haha!  Dude just helped dji sell another 1,000 phantoms, facepalm!

  • All this doesn't seem to stop him from flying his?

  • While some of his points are very real, a lot of them apply to technologies far and wide, and have for ages.

This guy's just looking for attention. Moving along.

  • I think his nappy needs changing!

  • FYI for the non NZers this is the main online news website in NZ.

  • Are you kidding me?
