DIYDrones Chat Feature Info

(We removed the Chat Feature until we can integrate it onto the site without causing Page Loading time delays and any user errors!  I'm going to work with Ning tomorrow afternoon on trying to fix the chat so that it doesn't affect any of our users.  If that doesn't work we can either wait 1-3 Months until Ning 3.0 is available to us or create an IRC)

We are trying to integrate a chat room feature without slowing down the page loading times on DIYDrones.com and we need your feedback and help.  

What we need from the community:

  1. Do you like or dislike the chat feature? (Please explain why)
  2. Does it slow down your page loading times and alter your overall user experience on DIYDrones?
  3. Is this something you would like to see be perminent on DIYDrones.com?
  4. Do you have any suggestions on how to improve it?

    That could definitely be the reason! The chat slows down my page loading on my iPod touch but when I disconnected from the chat on my iPod touch the loading time went back to normal. Anyone having this success on a mobile device.

    Hmm.. if the chat is using ningim.com then blocking JS from that 3rd party site could be a reason.

    Thats strange I'm not experiencing the same issue.  What browser are you using?

    I'm usually opening many pages in tabs and read them one by one.

    Chat has different history on different tabs.

    @ULI, Good Idea!  That's definitely something we can look into to improve the chat!

    Great to hear Hawhoo! :D  Just an FYI to everyone:If it slows down your loading times try disabling the chat by clicking on the green dot and see if it speeds your loading times back up.  I'm not experiencing any loading time issues so I can't test it out.

    I see no slowdown and think it is a great feature! You can ask for help or discuss issues online....
