Interesting controller and hexa setup.

Extracts:
"Shenzhen-based DJI Innovations was on hand at NAB today to demonstrate its new hex-rotor aircraft, designed to provide photographers (and videographers) with a low-cost tool for capturing aerial images."
"The Spreading Wings S800 is available for pre-order now and is expected to ship next month for roughly $8,500. That clever live video controller will cost you another pretty penny, however, with an estimated $5,000 price tag and a TBD ship date"

@Ruwan. Actually I use some parts of it in another project so it's "off duty". But I consider to build bigger version with a 7" monitor and a micro Win7 PC for ground station software.

There is a thread talking about the tilt idea in the forums. Basically it's like dihedral in an airplane offering "mechanical" stabilization.
I saw the same thing on the booms...has anybody ever tested this type of setup (with a tilt on the booms)??
I think that the stepper motor usage in the gimbal is the most interesting part of this video. Anyone using such a setup in a gimbal right now? Also, I see they have somewhere around a 15 degree tilt to their booms.. is this proven to be a better setup?
Maybe a necessary link back to a heated discussion a week ago:

Nice setup but this isn't aimed at DIY hobbyist I feel, rather at law enforcement looking for a cheaper solution (hence the military green and the low cost blabla - in those circles this would be low cost).
@Marco, Nice one! did you do change anything after that?
Yup, interesting use of "low-cost" and "$5000 + $8500" terms in the same article! ;-)
@ Marco..... "first" :)
The video controller looks very interesting & "military" in that green....... So thinking ahead, the total DJI setup from start to finish is shaping up to be a few £'s /$'s!
Using the £ prices:
WKM with full way point: £2278
Video Box: £3333
Spreading Wing: £5666
Cam mount: £2333
You still need to add batteries, ESC's, a radio etc ..... :)

Martin.
