To DIY Drones (DIYD) Members and website visitors: I am planning to terminate hosting of dronespeak.com, to focus on applying drone systems to address urgent problems with our environment.
New to DIYD? Excited to make your own drone system? You may want to copy pages from dronespeak.com for your personal use. Over 6000 Blog Posts (News Reports) and other items have been curated since January 2013 by using a managed vocabulary, a collection of DIY UAS topics, and methods other than bots. Read what DIYD members have said about announced UASs, UAVs, UAV sensing systems, and topics such as Sense and avoid, Crash, flyaway and recovery, New to making a UAV or drone system?, Traveling with a civilian or commercial drone system, and Aerial mapping.
I expect the future will include many do-it-yourselfers who want to make their own system, along with many more who would rather buy a complete package that is optimized for one or more applications/purposes. There will continue to be many viewpoints and opinions about the increasing numbers of drones and unmanned vehicles, by any definition, and for any purpose.
My thanks to Doug Starwalt and others for their support over the last three years. I am moving on to focus on problems where drones have potential to help, such as my crowdfunding effort to monitor declining kelp habitats.
Unless my plans change (maybe there is an offer that is hard to refuse?), I will retain the domain name and US Registered Trademark. DIYD members may contact me (the ‘John Githens’ near Seattle) through the DIYD email system. It’s been an interesting journey. Best wishes to you all for 2016 and beyond.

The DroneSpeak.com domain and associated website content is now up for sale on GoDaddy's Domain Auction website. Includes transfer of the DroneSpeak Trademark (US).
The DroneSpeak.com website will remain online for one more year (March 1, 2017). Updates to most of the content ceased around mid-September 2015. Happy searching, drone system DIYers!
Thanks for the compliments! I probably won't make a decision about the site's content until closer to March 1, but until then I am definitely open to suggestions or proposals. Please use the email system here on DIY Drones to contact me.
I primarily developed the site as a service to the DIYD community. Of course I used it myself to learn and to zoom in to blog posts about specific components or topics, without wading through other stuff from DIYD or Google search results.
I've often wondered how various businesses have profited from the site's content.
Hi John, your efforts have been very much appreciated and I hope this exceptionnal knowledge base you have built with much intelligence will not be lost. Thank you.
Sad. Very comprehensive and complicated ideas too hard realise
Would you be willing to transfer it to my hosting?
Regards
Hi John,
I am sorry to see you shutdown Dronespeak.com as I considered it to be a very valuable resource and window into the sUAS environment and community.
