"hello drone" in the app store

appstore

A few weeks ago we announced a partnership with Canonical to support the next generation of drones that will be connected to the internet, update automatically and will have access to an app store for drones. Following up with our passion for bringing Linux-based drones to the market we are happy to share that the first apps are starting to show up in the store and are freely available.

Our goal is to create computers with the ability to fly that would allow a big community of Linux experts and hackers to jump into robotic application development using the best tools and frameworks (ROS) for robotic application development. We plan to release soon an image for Erle-Brain that will allow you to play with the store and make Linux drones so if your are interested go and fetch yours from the store.

The “hello drone” app is teared down and explained in this article:

Support for hardware access in Snappy Ubuntu Core has recently been announced so expect more apps to be released  over the following weeks interacting with hardware. Our approach will be focused on ROS.
