I Wish I Was Excited About The GoPro Camera Craze

I was about to by a GoPro, but I’m not so sure about it anymore, after reading this.....

Not to a few hundred people, not to a few thousand people, and in no way should you be selling hundreds of thousands of cameras around the world with a critical firmware or software bug that arbitrarily limits the number of photos you can take with it. But GoPro did exactly that.

But according to the latest reviews on Amazon, it doesn’t look like I’m alone at all.

  • With respect, im amazed you think this is news. Half-baked, buggy products are the norm these days in everything. My brand new and very expensive laptop has so many bugs and flaws (not in the OS, in the laptop itself) it's not even funny.
  • In other news, some lame programmers made software in the 1900's that only used the last two digits of the year.

  • It's a board cam with very good marketing, when it works.  Consumers recently became focused on ergonomics & less on picture quality, thanks to Apple & kenrockwell.com.  Gopro realized they couldn't afford to make very good optics, but they could make a lot of money on very cheap improvements to the button & LED layout that no-one else was doing.

    The Dec 15, 2012 firmware on my hero3 constantly crashes, requiring the battery to be cycled.  The crashes are when starting the 1st recording of the day.  Wifi is there in name only, but doesn't do anything useful.  Having spoken to him, their software manager is a jerk, so it's not surprising where the quality is lacking.

  • Was never impressed with Gopro myself.

    I brought a LCD screen for mine (well had 4 in total)

    It was made aware to me that GoPro would not take fault (gopro camera gopro lcd, no aftermarket stuff) and somehow my brand new camera was my issue

    So after they sent me a 'F### you we are GoPro we are epic, your only a customer' email, i sold the camera, ripped the gopro sticker of my stuff and moved on...

    And i don't have any problems with it since FW update.
