The cool LIDAR-Lite rangefinder project hit their base goal and are now just $1,000 away from their stretch goal of $75,000. If they hit that they'll switch the LEDs in the current design for real lasers, for even longer range and accuracy. If you haven't backed the project, now is the time. Let's push them over the top! (I've now ordered a second set)

[UPDATE: They did it! Lasers are go]

  • Chris : great to hear. Thanks.
  • I think that came across wrong, I did mean to say congrats!

  • It just reminds me a lot of this project: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1108292587/99-lidar-project . That one turned out to be a scam, I guess. With 3DR backing I suppose this project will actually turn into a product.

Jason: the earlier prototypes are already integrated into the Ardupilot code. Once we get the final versions with lasers, it should be a matter of a few weeks to update, test and release that support.

  • This isn't necessarily ideal for object avoidance, but this unit is not effected at all by other noisy systems, so it is ideal for perfect landings.

Multis want perfect landings too..especially when you...errrr....have "high performance equipment between your legs"....

  • Any idea when we might get this integrated in the Ardupilot code. Hanging out for some of you awesome programmers work.

  • Backed. Had me at laser too.
  • Now I just need to get a shark to mount it on.

  • Cool! Congratulations!  Very excited to see what this will bring.

  • You had me when you said "Laser". Everything is better with a laser.
