MinimOSD meets ArduCAM OSD Config

3689445393?profile=originalWe know you love DIYDrones... so here is the Valentine's gift from the Dev Team! Yeah, we love you back. LOL =)
Anyway, in fact the title of this post could also be "ArduCAM OSD Project meets Michael Oborne"!!!

This tool makes setting up the awesome MinimOSD board super easy!

You can also buy from your local distributor, like JDrones.

Now you can:

  • enable and disable panels;
  • positioning panels by drag or numeric input;
  • save and load layouts from file;
  • save and load layouts from board's EEPROM;
  • test video mode switching with adaptive layout;
  • update firmware;
  • update character set;
  • customize background picture;
  • set grid on/off;
  • test the layout with telemetry logs from Mission Planner;

If you want to know more about each feature, check this wiki page.

To upgrade your MinimOSD board just went to our download area and grab the "OSD Config" and "MinimOSD 1.9 Pack".
An update pack contains two files: the Firmware (.hex) and the CharSet (.mcm).

Pay attention to the right update order. The tutorials are linked below:

  1. "Update Firmware" (it adds support to upload the character set);
  2. "Update Charset".

I'm super happy with the progress of ArduCAM project.
Now with Michael aboard... the sky is the limit just the start!

Enjoy your new toy! ;) There is much more coming out.

Note: The battery remaining icon was temporarily disabled due it's a work in progress on APM code.

  • Hi Sandro, yeah, me again!

     yes, it's the new Rev 1.1 board.

    I stopped getting the MAVLink Beats message after I flashed it the FW & Charset with the new MAV1.0, after doing the FW on the APM 2 to 2.6.

    Each side of the rail is definately getting power, as the red leds correspond with what ever end I unplug. The yellow led also has a rapid flashing (is that showing it's receiving data from the telem?)

    Sometimes if I unplug 12v side and plug it in again I get some corrupted looking characters coming up on the screen.

    Getting about 4.8 v @ APM side, and 12.4 v at Vid Out side.

    Damn I wish they did a daughter board version for it, or built it in to the main APM board, just to avoid this sort of mess!

    Owen, first of all... what hardware version is the new one?

    Also, did you get the "Waiting for MAVLink Beats" message after re-flashing it to  MAV1.0 firmware?

  • I've got to be the most unlucky, or perhaps dimmest Quadcopter noob in the pack!

    I've just upgraded to the new APM 2, which is spectacular, updated FW to 2.6, and wired up my NEW, REPLACEMENT MINIMOSD board, only to find it's behaving the same as the first one I sent back to 3DR.

    Initially I got the "waiting for mavlinks" message, unplugged the power, replugged it a few times before it once worked, now it does not. At first I tried soldering tabs and running off only the APM after fears I might've cooked the last one, but that didn't work.

    I'm now powering it via APM on one side, and 12v the other (de-soldered tabs again) and getting a red LED each side all good, and it's passing on the video, it's just not overlaying any data.

    I see there are no concise instructions as to how to wire up the APM 2 to the minimOSD, so I just used the telemetry pin outs. Does the APM 2 TX pin go to the MinimOSD RX pin for eg?

    I've also updated to the new Mavlink 1.0 OSD hex, it's behaving itself normally throughout that side of it.

    What in friks name am I doing wrong people?????

  • How do you connect to the MinimOSD to OSD_Config.exe?  I see an option for COM port, do I need to connect the MinimOSD directly to USB or do I connect my APM2 to USB?  The wiki does not seem to explain this connection.

  • Disconnected compass (Arduplane. Dont do it on Arducopter) and all is sweet. Best OSD I have had (I haven't had many).

    Thanks.

  • Hi Michael

    Will this also work with the octocopter?

    Thanks

    @Damian, Yep, for sure there was an offset. In a too short distance it may jumps a bit because the GPS is not so precise. Looking at the MP's map zoomed closely you will see that the GPS is kinda jumpy in a range of 5 to 10 meters.

  • Thanks Sandro.
    I had 7 satellites but maybe the home position was off a bit.
  • Developer

    @Damian:  Glad you had a pleasant experience! ;)
    The arrow will point towards the home.

    E.g.: If you fly straight far from your position it will point at you.

  • Set mine up last night.
    Much easier than I anticipated.
    Excellent. The OSD Config tool was simple and seeing the modes is a great plus.

    Does the home arrow point towards home or reverse? Might sound stupid but it seems to point away. I'm pretty new to this and have Bly tried the remzibi, but this is better with APM.
