  • I was under the guise of the 9 Degrees of Freedom board was this

    Attitude: Gyro

    1) Pitch

    2) Roll

    3) Yaw

    Environmental Effects: Accelerometer

    4) Lift/Gravity

    5) Thrust/Drag

    6) Angular Moment

    Spherical Location and Vectoring: Magnetometer

    7) hemisphere

    8) ascension

    9) declination

Add to that having an independant system to offset sensor drifts and manufacturing inconsistancies:

    Spherical Location and Vectoring GPS:

    10) Lat

    11) Long

    12) Altitude

of course there are corrections as well

Location: Mag North vs True north

Speed: Ground Speed vs Air Speed

the list goes on... but I do agree, its been used many ways.

Jeff, yes every time we post about a new sensor people make that point. I guess it's like "4G" at this point--mostly marketing. But that's the terminology the industry uses, so I guess we're stuck with it.
  • Amusedly (and rhetorically) I ask:  At what point did the world begin interpreting "Degrees Of Freedom" as "Number of Independent Sensors"?

I suppose calling it "10 Independent Sensors based on 4 Different Sensing Modalities providing observations of  the 6 Degrees of Translational and Rotational Motion" is a bit wordy.

$60 would be good if I can get them in 6 months.
