New OpenFGS Ground Station

Hi Guys

This is my new ground station (and my smiley face)

I'm developing this software since 3 days (yes i know i'm too fast, because this is my job since 20 years)

IMG_3327-300x200.jpg

It's working with my new SimpleOSD telemetry protocol over FrSKY's bidirectional RC modules. Protocol is very simple and it is sending all gps+battery values in 21bytes pack (1bytes deviceID+18bytes data+ 2bytes end of line data).

Features:

  • It is OpenSource (under LGPL license)
  • Live Video
  • Live Google Maps position
  • Video Capturing with all compression codecs.
  • Data logging and others.

And i will add OpenLRS telemetry support with IMU and other sensors on Alpha version of firmware. Then i'm planning to design a PC based Autopilot system into the ground station. Because PC based programming easier for most of pc programmers.

You can follow my all FrSKY telemetry projects from this link

And this is the google code page of OpenFGS project. http://code.google.com/p/openfgs/

Please contact with me for being  the project member, all developers are welcome.

Thanks for reading

Melih

  • Melih. Okay, got it. I think you are right in that programming the PC is easier for most people. Keep up the good work

  • @Alex, PC can do mission control, autopilot (not copilot or stabilizer) jobs as all UAVs. All military or civilian uavs (as map making uavs) using same system that i saw before, because who need waypoint flights without video or ground control. If you lost your UAV's link it cancels the  mission and returns to safe zone. Autonomous waypoint following only important for guided bombs. (and it's not my job). Ofcourse everyone thinks different but this is my way for OpenLRS and OpenFGS. They are opensource and you can write your own code.

In my case i'm working on a map making system. The IMU will stabilize the plane and PC will control it for right coordinates and camera trigger.

And a second one for fun: PC controlled flight with HD camera for aerial video production.

  • So, Melih, what is the PC doing if the plane already has its own stability flight control?

  • ohh i didn't know that

so it will need full time R/C Link for autonomous flying over waypoints? i thought the PC based autopilot was just to upload new waypoints to the autopilot,

Any way... if R/C link is lost is a planed mission, then at least it will come home itself...

  • @Alex,

OpenLRS already have an onboard processor for stabilizing and  return to home(or hold on position). If you want to design a gps guided bomb of course you need standalone autopilot system but i think computer based autopilots enough for most of amateurs.

@Eric, I'm developing it with Delphi 7 (plane side is AVR-GCC)

  • Hi Melih,

I was just wondering what language you programmed this in.

  • Those are nice looking gauges/dials. What would your airplane/copter do, if it lost it's radio link, since you are doing the autopilot on the PC instead of an onboard processor?
