So far, the pneumatic connections on our Pitot-static system were considered perfectly airtight. For a change, in this article we examine typical leakage scenarios and their impact on airspeed and altitude measurements. We will focus on leakage solely in the static system; study of the leakage in static pressure piping is important, since at high airspeeds, deviation in static pressure will lead to airspeed measurement errors.
