I've put together a website for a project I've been working on for 2 years now and will hopefully enter it into the Australian Outback UAV Challenge if it's held in 2010. Just wanted to post the website here for those who are interested. I'll post here when I add new entries for the blog with an excerpt for those who wish to follow the progress.Website: http://www.projectandromeda.com.auBlog: http://www.projectandromeda.com.au/blog
I told myself there wouldn't be a problem installing silverlight, but to voluntarily install an additional Microsoft product? I couldn't go through with it. Good luck with your project!
One more notion to think about - (as far as I know) Google and others can't index content in silverlight. By going for standards (and keeping silverlight/flash/other proprietary content forms for non-critical content, e.g. video, 3D widgets etc.), you'll get better google hit ratio and ultimately more publicity, more support and more brains willing to join your effort.
Martin, the graphics are done with 3ds Max, post processing with Photoshop. The model is from an Inventor drawing that we will tweak and eventually cut using the CNC. I will blog on this soon.
Thanks for the comments guys. I wasn't expecting such a backlash with Silverlight, you're a hard crowd to please. I'm disappointed about Moonlight. I will fix that ASAP if I can.
David, I could design a standard html website, but this was an experiment on my part more than anything. The blog is going to be the main point of attraction soon anyway, hopefully that will keep the rest of you content until I either redesign, or Microsoft does.
Dump Silverlight - if you need some form of dynamic tool then use flash. Best approach is to use the standard web. Having said that the pic looks great and I wish you well on your efforts.
Some of us can't install Silverlight because Microsoft chose to boycott our platforms and/or operating systems and/or browsers (and your web rejects Moonlight, the open implementation of Silverlight). Or maybe your Silverlight detection script is just screwed up (hint: provide a "yes I have it installed dammit" override link). Not to mention that it's very sluggish on light platforms (Intel Atom groundstation). (and screw the blind with their readers, right?) Web standards are here for a reason, people.
That being said, I've managed to decrypt the binary madness and get a peek at some garbled pictures of the AC - looks very polished. What software are you using for the CGI? The bungee catapult is a nice touch :)
Well I remember getting 3G on my phone which didn't have the best antenna. I wonder if I would get any coverage on the 3G dongle from work. It would have enough bandwidth for Qik to get some live footage.

Looking forward to updates on your blog :)
