  • Had the first AP flight pas weekend, was perfect :) The only issue was the PID for longitudinal control that will require some tuning. The waypoint mode was not successful, dont yet understand the problem. Uploaded some pictures on my integration, available on my page hereIntegration Pictures

  • Sensors arrived, both the XY and Z :D Also got the shield with the barometric sensors. So now the integration can start, and the fun!
  • @David
Thank you for the good wishes. Working with the latest version 2.x.

Get the AP mout and start learning, sensors are not required for the first steps :) My sensors will only arrive in the next few weeks. In the meantime I got the Easystar build and flying. Then the AP stuff arrived, got to assembling the Xbee pro RF links, then got the AP board assembled, the software IDE installed and working. Next step was loading the test software and then todays test.

Now its loading of the AP 2.x software and then installing the sensors and integrating everything in the fuse and running some more ground tests, then the launch :)

Goals in general is to learn more about AP, specifically to learn programming Atmel, got no prior uC experience :) New challenge is nice tho.

Maybe do some work with the ground stations and develop that further, also develop pitot tube and Angle of attach sensor suitable for RC craft. Build some Brushless speed controllers from scratch and a battery charger and some motors as well, just for fun :D

    Good luck with your project!
  • Some more build news, did the airframe test with the NE software late afternoon, flicked the activation switch and success :D Another milestone achieved!
  • Fully acquainted with Full/Half nelsons :) Cool place the Midlands, no doubt you know the song as well :) The seagull one...

Half Nelson is a wrestling term over here ;-) Now we could move onto the nautical Nelson type references.

Lots of area to play in down in the Midlands, same altitude though sadly.
  • Would be nice indeed Gary, now now, would that be reducing the processing by half or leaving one processor on the ground ;)

If you make a smaller one it can be a half nelson, so you set Nelson Free today then?

Well done Sarel, when I'm back down in November we shall have to do some flying together.

  • And on to the next phase of the UAV. Got the kit, XBee pro, Ardupilot, Adafruit and the GPS, only awaiting the FMA sensors.

Assembled everything last night and its all working, no problems whatsoever. The AP was powered on, GPS works and the XBee's was tested in loop back, works sweetly... We loaded the NE test software into AP and that was successful as well!

Now for the next step, get the sensors, wire everything together, get it in the fuse and do ground testing. We can test and wire but alas the sensors is still outstanding...

    Till n ext time...
