  • Hi Paul,

Your question as to the price is warranted. Certainly one who has time and expertise can whip something together for less. But this is what sets Screamy apart:

    1) It is loud. I've compared a Hobby King alarm to this. I could hear the Hobby King alarm out to 200 feet. Our product can be heard up to 660 feet (1/8 mile).

    2) It is durable. I've only seen one other alarm that had an internal battery, and it wasn't rechargeable. We use a 200mAh LiPo battery plus have the charging circuit built in.  Why an internal battery? It's all about guaranteeing recovering your aircraft in any crash. I have had some pretty bad crashes (call me a bad pilot!) and in some of these the battery disconnected from the system.

Second point on durable: How many alarm providers have ran their products through environmental testing? We have. Admittedly, this level of quality comes at a cost.

    3) It is configurable. It's not just a potentiometer to control how frequently it beeps. I've released the software as open source. Anyone can tweak it to their liking.

    4) For all of the above, it is tightly packaged. It weighs 9 grams, just 2 grams more than a competitor's alarm that doesn't include a battery.

I hope that helps you and others understand the level of high quality engineering that has gone into this device.

    Best Regards,

    Kelly Miller
