Shielded hexacopter is safer than the rest

Full carbon frame with sexy color  , 6 ducted propellors, semi-waterproof, enough room for 4 5A 4s lipo's. maximum prop size is 12".
Props are fully protected, can bump into wall, tree, person, without breaking props or hurting people.

Empty weight is 3,7kg. Current set-up Axi 2804/22 and graupner 11x5" props. Still looking for a better combination though, for increased flight time.

  • also,if somebody want to protect props i think this is much better solution https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcemQefIejE&feature=related

  • also this guy Killy from Holland make something similar http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1439611&page=39 ...is that you Airviewlive

  • i would say that is expensive aixbotix hexa for sure....

  • Looks a little like the aixBotix Hexa.

Stunning looking tho', and likely cheaper too?

Wonder if these can be made lighter by using some sort of kevlar honeycomb instead of carbon?

Hey if you go into production, give me a shout, I'll sell some on www.dronezone.co.za

  • At last, a sensible design! Well done that looks great

  • Cool!  Nice safety-copter!

Does it come in non-girl colors?  :)

  • I think you have an easy room for improvement with those motor struts.  That's a terrible shape, even if they're on top. Change those to an airfoil cross-section tubing.  Or even just vertical plates, but use 3 struts instead of 2.

    It is cute though.

Where can I buy one of these frames from? :-)

Although 60A with a 1KG payload is too high.  My Hexa hovers with camera and gimbal payload at 30A.  My Octo hovers with camea and gimbal payload at 40A.

    Great Hexcopter

If you can find a light weight mesh and have a large area covered above the props you should not have much reduction in lift.  Below the props the air speed is so high it would be very difficult to not have a large reduction in lift.

  • Hi Guys,

The frames are not yet for sale, they have been manufactured under contract, but there are plans for selling them.

The 3,7kg is easy for normal flying, however for edurance it's a bit on the low side. It hovers at 30A without payload. With 1kg payload, it's 60A(!) Flight time now with 1 lipo: 7 minutes. It is however a great trainer as you can hover inches above grass (when the landing gear isnt attached) and safely maneuver it around.

The motor struts do drag, but because we turned the motors the other way around the effect should be minimal. there is nothing below the props that can obstruct the airflow. From the top, there is only suction.

There are plans on making a mesh above and under the props, but my guess is that that will decrease flighttime rapidly...

    thanks for the comments guys.
