Skua arrived

Just received X-UAV Skua,

and found differences in the characteristics from x-uav.cn site:

Guide recommends the motor 2820 (3720) and 4*9g servo (2*9,2*17)

Good thing I do not have these parts. I think about using the lower tank, and the upper compartment. The upper part is not much room, while the bottom is not too suitable for installation of camera gimbal. So i think about some modification.

  • Looks surprisingly similar to the Techpod.

    @Kirill,

    You might want to consider a 3520-880 and use 4S LiPos and swing a 13" prop.

  • Thanks, John. I use ecalc and I agree about weak motor/prop. Standard nose with dome prevents the use of propeller more then 10" so I removed the fairing. I think about T-motor like 3520-400 with 6S battery and 12" prop. Am I right?

    A 2820 motor is much to small for this bird. Especially one fully loaded with a large battery and FPV equipment. It would probably fly, but you would be pushing the motor so much that any gain from reduced weight would be lost to heat.

    For long flight times you want as large a propeller (12" most likely) as possible. So you want a motor that would drive that propeller size efficiently. Something in the 3530 - 3542 range and about 1000kv for 3/4S. Or the 3720 mentioned also sounds like a good advice, since large diameter motors usually are better with large propellers.

  • Sticker overkill :-(

    @Kirill,

    With all of the logos on the plane, it looks more like a flying bill board:-)

  • Sticker on the tail secures rudder. I would replace the rest but it is simply possible to place my own over them.

    The stickers are quite amusing
