  • QuadrotorThai, DJI also has A2, which costs around $1300. SmartAP is that level of the system.

  • s-l1600.jpg
DJI Phantom 3 Standard ($499.00) already to fly with camera.
I think SmartAP price $200 or cheaper it will easy to sale.

  •  QuadrotorThai, right, but the target users and applications for these two systems are different.

  • s-l1600.jpgAll $179.88.
SmartAP expensive than Pixhawk PX4 v2.4.6.

  • @earthpatrol,

there is no legislation to let third parties to audit proprietary code protected under

copyrights and Berne's Convention (vide WIPO).

  • Earthpatrol, agree with you. At the moment we want to show the performance of the system and prove that it's better compared to the other available systems. Then it will become obvious that we didn't copy and paste something from open source. Anyway, if someone will be interested in 3rd party code audit - we're always ready to prove that the code is proprietary.

  • Andreas, we're located in Moscow. You can always contact us using the form on the website and we'll be glad to answer all your questions.

  • Marc, thank you for your words! Highly appreciate your thoughts and opinion! Agree with you, 3DR missed the right time to develop and release something like this, professionally oriented. I had a talk with their dev team lead in Berkeley and they were pretty interested in SmartAP 3.0. But most likely something ready-to-fly like Solo has much more priority at the moment.

That's right - the next step will be direct comparison with the other well-known platform. For instance, we've already tested GPS position hold accuracy compared to DJI Wookong side by side (left - Wookong, right - SmartAP):

Good questions about the RF module. Actually we're using HM-TRP and it already has integrated protection which makes it quite safe to use.

Currently the price or the entire system with GPS and telemetry is $490, we give a huge discount due to the system is not well-known yet and people are afraid to buy expensive products that they don't know much about.

GPS depends a lot on the "weather" and this is the main reason of unknown unexpected drift. I don't think that Pixhawk has much better position hold, every Pixhawk powered drone I saw had the same or lower level of accuracy.

I've already considered the idea of giving the system to Marco for tests and review and like it more and more. Thanks for the hint!

And thanks again for the comment!

  • Erik, actually, the layout of the most GCS's is pretty similar to each other, all of them have Map, PFD, Status field, Control buttons etc. Also it's about the usability and interaction. Mission Planner has pretty good user interface, we've checked lots of design and picked the best ideas of widgets location, size etc and implemented in our software.

You're right, that's just a windows layout pasted onto Macbook, but Mac OS version will be available for download in just a few, we're doing the last tests and checks at the moment.

Actually, there is nothing common between SmartAP GCS and Mission Planner from the code point of view, we've developed the app using Qt and it's cross-platform (Windows, Mac, Linux) while Mission Planner is based on .NET and is supported only in Windows.
