I just wanted to say hello to everyone on this great website and I can't wait to get started on my project!I'm out in Orlando, FL and me and a few guys are looking at pricing components for our system. I want to work with the UAVDevBoard b/c I'm familiar w/ programming PICs. Any suggestions for data recorder boards that work well with it?Is it really possible to control an aircraft just from a single microcontroller? Don't autopilots need inertial navigation, guidance, and control algorithms? That seems like a lot of number crunching for these little guys...
Josh, just keep reading. All the source code is linked on the site, both in the UAVDevBoard and ArduPilot tabs above. ArduPilot distributes the work over two processors in the current version (RC and autopilot functions) and three over the next one (IMU, high-level logic/navigation, and RC control)
you are correct it can be done on one processor. The attitude estimation is pretty number intensive but I was surprised at how little processor it takes to calculate very simple but very adequate navigation routines as well as stabilty control algorithms. Good luck and welcome
Welcome to DIYdrones.com I think you will have an awesome adventure here. I am new as well (see my blog for details) and have found this place to be a fantastic resource. Have fun!
