In a distant continent far far away... Futaba clones are back on stock.
Accord to the HobbyKing site, the RX is compatible with Futaba FASST receivers: TM7, TM8, TM10, TM14 and others.
Some weeks ago, I bought my OrangeRX Spektrum compatible ones (main RX 6ch and the satellite).
It seems to work fine. The price... you know, is the best part.
Now is the time for the generic Futaba ones too (since October of last year).
If you have a Futaba TX and if this clone is as good as the Spektrum clone/generic ones, should be a great deal. Don't you think?
More details here.

It is true that product branding gives an advantage. As long as the product brand isn't stolen as well, which has been known to happen. However, trade-secrets are hard to keep secret from a determined thief, which is the purpose for patents. BTW, patents are 20 years, or 14 for just a design patent. It is true that patents have been abused, and often, but it hardly pays to throw out the baby with the bathwater, as the saying goes. I think that "clone" is probably as good a term as any other for a copy of an existing product - If it looks like a duck, and all that. These Hobby King items seem to be an imperfect clone though since some modes are not supported. The extra features probably come from leaving enabled things that you pay a premium for in the original product. In other product lines the clones frequently have unforeseen bugs - I'll wait to see how well others do them! I'm still on the fence about FAAST over DSM2, the latter is far more prevalent in the BNF craft, which is pretty convenient.
IMO,

The manufacturer is frsky-rc.com. The FASST compatible receiver is just a cash grab to get in on the action with all the Futaba radios out there. Their own brand products have as good a (or better?) diversity radio system, telemetry and lots of other goodies. And of course at a much lower price then Futaba products.
John, you're right. Maybe generic could be the right word.
I was taken by the Star Wars joke. :P
BTW, those improvements you're talking about should justify the fact that it have not too lower price than original one.
Its called trade secrets and non-disclosure. Millions of industries work that way. I suppose nobody makes money off all the out of patent, public domain items in this world, not to mention GNU and open-source products. Sorry I don't believe that anyone needs a 20 to 60 year monopily to make money or create new things. All it does is inflate prices and adds to the pockets of the rich.
Hmm, B.Gates is a multi-bullionair and necer wrote a line of code. What do you think the programmers get? Not rich, thats for sure.
Do you really think that an engineer who is forced to turn over his patents to his employer sees any of the millions to billions of dollars that company will profit from his invention? If so, I have a time-share to sell you.
Unsubscribed.
Drop patents? There's a good idea. Let's remove all financial incentive to putting effort into creating anything new! Why I look forward to spending 18 months of the effort of half a dozen engineers so that I can facilitate a <you know who> company's ability to just use the IP and not have to pay any of the development costs. Bah, who needs engineering overhead, I'll just wait for someone else to develop what I want and take their IP and run with it. Low cost engineering, here I come!
Are you being serious? Not everything is a commodity item.
Rana ,
if it is with analog servos disable the failsafe on the RX you can find the info on the item page just below the price bar and the add bar at top of the reviews look to the right for the "files" tab and click on it and you will have a list of files that contain the instructions about the RX and how to disable the failsafe function
