While surfing the net, I came across this chip I thought it is worth writing about it.
The VN-200 is a miniature high-performance GPS-Aided Inertial Navigation System that combines MEMS inertial sensors, a high-sensitivity GPS receiver, and advanced Kalman filtering algorithms to provide optimal estimates of position, velocity, and orientation for industrial applications.
Utilizing the latest advancements in MEMS technology, the VN-200 incorporates a wide assortment of inertial sensors including a 3-axis accelerometer, 3-axis gyroscope, 3-axis magnetometer, and a barometric pressure sensor.

@Monroe, yes I guess it is an APM on a chip more or less!
yes this is the heart of satbilization and navigation of autopilots. if this chip is used even with low end processor boards the results would be amazing. rest of the hardware can be compromised but not what is inside this chip.
I saw these at AUVSI and the guys were fun to talk to and happy to get into the details of what they were doing. None of the 'oh, it's secret, we can't tell you that" kind of stuff.
I'm not sure about this particular chip but the others that I saw were actually based on the MPU6050 which is just a small variation on the MPU6000 that is used in the APM2.5. The special sauce is really the kalman filtering software and also that they have a fancy machine to get all the accel, gyro and temperature calibration for the mpu6050 just right.
Anyway, a good bunch of guys in my opinion!
An open source Kalman filter which did the fusion of GPS, air pressure, & acceleration has been sorely lacking. That's what's giving the most optimum results.
:))) Sure.
For now, I flew MTi-G from Xsens and CHIMU from Ryan Mechatronics. I think Vectornav is good alternative for MTi-G.
Lazy, when youre done, let me have it for a go.'ll send it back when im done.....maybe.
Wow, and weight 3g (SMD)
Wow, what a nice, cheap device :))) I will try it.
Agreed Nick, wow, just wow!!!!! Odd that VectorNave VN 200 would surf to find own product Vectornav....mmm. Buddy, make it affordable to the plebs and the most of us will flock to your door with our orders. I'll even say please....PPPLlllleeeaaaasssseeeee. Would love to have one or two or a 1000, but at $900 a pop, I'll bite the bullet and suffer the eastern quality for a while more. Theyre bound to rip off a product like this. I'm sure you have done the marketing research and did your models ect., but the way I see it, rather have 1000000 clients paying x than 100 paying x^2. I know the R&D cost arguments ect, but your smile will be much broader if you cater for the masses like myself and Nick and Rana and, and and. Looks awsome, great work.
