I am happy to introduce VR Neuron II's latest virtualrobotix platform.
The goal is to have the maximum possible integration from a Flight Control as VR Brain based on micro controller STM32, extremely reliable with many hours of flights behind with a companion computer based on RPI2 that through a dedicated IMU will work Parallel to the VR Brain and also to provide advanced features such as internet connectivity, management or payload or functionality of digital and brushless gimbal.

One of the best feature of Neuron is that a lot of your "old" sensor and device could be re usable in your new proget : GPS , Telemetry Module and IMU sensor is compatible with VR Neuron II Board.
We  planned to develop a modular architecture that allows the addition and improvement of the capabilities of the system through the logic of the update online and why not of online , app store.
The first platform for developers and partners will be made available from September will be immediately available software to connect to the internet and to manage payload in DIY and RTF configuration.
For some ideas that gave birth to the project I wanted to thank the guys from the project NavIO and also  Victor the CEO of Erle  Robotics as well the DIYDrones Teams that did a great work on Linux port of APM Platform :)

Great Job Guys :)

Best

    HI Waladi ,

sure there are a lot of tutorial for use OpenCv with RPI 2 like this : http://www.pyimagesearch.com/2015/02/23/install-opencv-and-python-o...

The main adavantages is that VR uBrain work as FC without problem and the OpenCv can use all Powerfull resource for vision application . The VR uBrain by mavlink is interconnected by Neuron II to RPI 2 and receive command from vision software .

  • Hi Roberto,
    Great Work!!
Is the CC (RPI2) powerful enough to run the computer vision program such as openCV?
    Thanks.

@Johnatan on VR Neuron we have a special connector for flexible Imu version , so is possible to put a mechanical dumper on sensor and reduce vibration.

  • What about vibration dampening on new system?

    @Samuel MI,

I analyze in depth the actual configuration of Solo and i think that it have a lot of limit respect of our solution. But it's normal the Solo project is a RTF and they need to optimize the price.

The main advantages is that with neuron you can adopt different kind of CPU from RPI Model A , very small and powerfull for entry level application , RPI 2  lot better of RPI 1 with 4 core processor but not so optimize for video encoding and decoding if you don't use It's camera until CPU based on IMX6 Solo Duo Quad a lot better for video encoding and decoding.

In solo platform the Companion don't have aditional IMU sensor on Neuron you have 2 complete set of IMU interconnected to CPU + VR micro Brain IMU .

So my opinion is that our solution is a lot more flexible respect of actual solo kit and a lot good for hobbyst and research project ... Actually our target is not to fight DJI , we don't have enought money ,  but invent new Things :)

  • nice work.

looks like you guys are providing a new form factor for Drones integrating FC (Flight Controller) with CC (Companion Computer), in the meantime, bringing in AI (Artificial Intelligence) technology, like computer vision processing.

plus, what advantages do you think VR Neuron has when compared with 3dr solo?

  • Hi Roberto, any links to more info. Thanks Mark

You can add until 3 different channel 2.4 Ghz 5.8 Ghz 3G/4G and 868 Mhz

    Thanks Roberto.

For safety reason I always split a channels. Separate video and telemetry.

We already developed our VR Pad Station application that in the next revision will be support H.264 low latency video streaming , mavlink telemetry and drone control , so will be possible to see in overlay to realtime video the information that you ask :)
