Come on the nearest airport from those guys is located 10 miles away. More than 8 miles compared to my situation. This my AMA flying field.

The flying field is 1.86 miles away and everybody is allowed to fly up to 400ft.

    Mark,
When programable waypoints are involved, as with Return_to_Home. Is this autonomous flight activity, even if not activated by pilot or failsafe software?

Return-home is not qualified by law as waypointing because such autopilots (return-home only) are not subject to autopilot export restrictions from US.
So by law those are not autopilots, they could be labeled 'safety automatic guidance apparatus' or something.
FYI all RVOSD exported abroad have return-home only.

You can always fly a "park flyer" anywhere (even in crowed areas) under 400ft, at least 2 miles away from an airport (as long you can see it). My AMA flying field is located less then 2 miles from a busy airport (Van Nuys) and the landing path is pointing right into the park, and why the park still operating?

The only rule they broke was flying over 400ft. But i don't see any airport closer than 2 miles.
  • hey... why the fu** would u fly near an airport ... near a crowded area....and over 400' thats breaking all kinds of rules! ppl like this set us back many many years! Thing is although its impressive its freaking dangerous to do that thats why rules and regs were put into place.

"This definition includes all Remote Control aircraft regardless of use. "
Time to dust off my TREX600
  • It is technically a UAS. Night flying, altitude and proximity to an airport are all outside of anything that could be termed safe. Believe it or not, it is shenanigans like these that make it back to ATC HQ. The clock is ticking on this community with little chance of an amiable solution.

UAS: Unmanned Aircraft System. An unmanned aircraft and its associated elements related to flight operations, which may include control stations, data communications links, support equipment, payload, flight termination systems, and launch/recovery equipment.

This definition includes all Remote Control aircraft regardless of use.

  • Why do people refer to this as UAV when in fact it was FPV?
  • PD heli's don't land at incident they send ground unit, and 4 or 5 guys on the beach show up real good with IR
  • They probably saw it on IR. The motor was probably glowing hot! I'm impressed they actually found these guys in the darkness. Wonder what was said when they got out of the heli.
