Willow Garage's ROS now running on coax helis, quads

The cool Robot Operating System from Willow Garage is now running on coax helis and quads. You can get it on the $5,000 Skybotix CoaX heli and drives are now available for high-end quads, too.

[UPDATE: ROS is also supported on the PixHawk platform. (Thanks to Lorenz for the tip!)]

I thing this is really expensive quad for what is worth! many people do almost the same at home for really cheaper!

The Parrot ardrone is really more cool also, price and technologically!

I did some tests with a LAMA3 coaxial helicopter some months ago. Great for indoor navigation, but terrible outside. The main problem being that the two rotors generate a lot of drag, making it very sensitive to wind.

This is quite equivalent to the drone that I am trying to build:

I really don't understand why they use GP2Dxx IR range finder. The beam of these sensors are very narrow, and cannot detect all obstacles.
