X-UAV had a stand at the Beijing expo displaying their new MFM material and showing off the difference between EPO and MFM.

The latest products, MFM (new materials), Comparing EPO and EPP, it is completely changes in technology and function.

Its density is between EPO and EPP, and 2-3 times rigid than the 35 density of EPO, more than 10 times toughness than EPO.

We have strong confidence on this new material. Comparing EPO and EPP,it is completely changes in technology and function. Its density is between EPO and EPP,

and 2-3times Rigid than the 35 density of EPO, more than 10 times toughness than EPO.

In order to avoid copy, especially in China. Sorry, we want to keep the name secret. it’s unique products on X-UAV, Pls understand.

We own this materials, foam factory, this is our patent materials. We can accept DIY project from customers, provide design or we design, both ok. Not only airplane, but also other products. Need so see the structure.

  • Hi Gary

    This is hilarious :)

  • Hi Greg,

The XUAV link I have above works fine for me when I click on it, so maybe it is location specific.

On the other hand, the video link you provided never actually plays the video, it plays an advertisement video then locks up loading the MFM video eventually it loads it but will not play it.

I can see a few individual slides at the bottom which show (MFM?) being bent and twisted and then returning to flat.

Interesting stuff, just can't get it.

  • This is really interesting.

  • the site does not work. Also interested in MFM... :)

  • Hi Christiann,

I've been intrigued by "MFM" since it was mentioned here the first time (I think by you).

It sounds (and looks) like really great stuff.

I've been trying to find out more information on it ever since (unsuccessfully).

The only information is that it is a "New Material" with a fiber composition.

    http://www.x-uav.cn/EN/product/63

Could you possibly please provide some additional information about it:

What does MFM stand for? (Lockeed describes MFM as Multi Function Material).

What is it? - "New Material" doesn't really impart much information.

Is it simply a proprietary material only available in X-UAV products?

    Or,

Is it available as a working medium (sheets for instance)?

    And if so from whom?

It looks like it has very nice machining characteristics and I'd love to try some out with my DIY CNC machine.

    Best regards,

    Gary
