X8 flying wing

New wing from Skywalker factory >>X8 UAV platform<<

For those who want Long range / Long flying time / High payload the new X8 wing will get you there..

The wing X8, will be released early 2012.

Wing span: 2122mm

Wing area: 80dm2

valid payload: 1000-2000g

X8 use KV730 2820 Motor, 40-60A ESC and 1260, 1280 prop

Now the X8 wing is ready in strong EPO foam

Lots of EPS drinks coolers have survived being up to 100,000 feet and beyond whilst strung below a balloon. That's -56°C at the tropopause. I imagine PP will become more brittle at low temperatures, but this might only be a problem if you crash! ;)

I do not know about extreme temperatures, but I have flown an EPO Skywalker and Multiplex Elapor planes in -10C ish temperatures without any problems.

I fly in extreme cold temperature northern Canada, I wonder which material is best suited for that climate.

EPS - Expanded Polystyrene is the cheap stuff typically used to contain product in packages etc. Very low weight but easily breaks into small pieces, making it very hard to repair. Melts if spray painted or glued using CA.

EPP - Expanded Polypropylene is stronger and feels more like plastic then styrene. Tears instead of breaking into pieces when damaged, making it easier to repair. Popular choice for foam models, but is sensible to UV and can be damaged by long exposure to sunlight. Spray paint and CA glue is hit or miss depending on the quality of the polypropylene.

EPO - Expanded Polyolefin is similar to EPP but perhaps even stronger (more like plastic). More resistant to UV/sunlight, and can be spray painted and CA glued without taking damage. This (or something very close) is what Multiplex calls ELAPOR.

Thanks for the information. Any idea as to what the EPO version is slated to go for and also how they plan to offer it, either as a ARF, kit or what?

Bad news: EPO foam version will not be ready untill Marts next year.

The black version you see on pictures is the test version made in EPS foam, this will be released in about one month. So if you pre ordered from BevRC you will get the EPS foam version.
