I'm an avid drone enthusiast who has flown several off the shelf drones over the years and I have even built a few kits. So when my firefighter friend approached me to build a drone to help fight forest fires, I decided to take on the project. He asked me to build him a quad copter that he can stored in a backpack, take out on a moment’s notice and somehow trigger it to1. Automatically fly straight up to 400 Ft2. Start a slow 360 degree pan of the horizon.3. Decent vertically over the launch spot to landThe idea is that a forest fire fighters can send this drone up to retrieve a panorama of the surrounding forest. The idea is full of potential issues but I decided to try and help.I have done a lot of research but I’m having trouble figuring out what flight controller to use. I need help finding/programming a controller that will allow1. Flight without a transmitter. To help reduce weight2. The current GPS location on activation for the base of its flight path up and down.Any advice or help will greatly be appreciated.Thank you

  • But can the Solo fly without a transmitter?
    • You probably won't find much support for flying without a radio or transmitter. I have done it before but I wouldn't again. The ability to take over in manual mode in case something goes wrong (and not drop it out of the sky) is enough reason for me.

Plus if there is a strange error you have an uncontrollable drone flying around fire fighting equipment.

      All my opinion of course!

  • Solo with Tower, done. You can program that mission super fast and seems as it will be your friend using the drone and not you, the solo is the easiest solution.

  • MR60

Pixhawk with APM:Copter firmware without hesitation. Why the question even ? ;)
