Beginner with PixHawk - which RC hardware?

So I have a Bixler airframe, and am buying a PixHawk unit, along with the 3DR telemetry radios.  What is the best RC transmitter/receiver combo I should be looking at?

APM High Altitude limit?

I am contemplating putting a drone (like a Bixler or Skywalker) on a balloon for launch from a very high altitude and subsequent LONG, APM guided glide back to the starting point.  Just for the hell of it (and some cool video)..

11,000 mah??

OK, so I am starting off with the Bixler to get my feet wet.  After that, I'd like to move to a Skywalker for LONG range flights.

 

Here is an interesting 11,000 mah pack that is only 650g or so.  Is anyone using anything like this?

Expected navigation accuracy...

If I have an aircraft like the Bixler or Skywalker using APM 2.x, what is the expected navigation accuracy?

 

For example, if I want the plane to fly directly over a waypoint at a certain altitude, how much horizontal error can I expect 99% of the time

Ground altitude display...

Hello,

 

I am new to APM Planner.  Just downloaded it yesterday, and noticed that in "Flight planner" on the right-hand side under "Mouse location" the Lat Long updates, but "ALT" always shows as zero no matter where I move the mouse.  It would be help
