About Me:

I received my Masters degree in Archaeology from Ghent University (UGent, Belgium) in 2002. Since then, I have been working at the Department of Archaeology and Ancient History of Europe, where I started my PhD research on archaeological aerial photography in September 2004. For my PhD research on new technologies, methodologies, and data processing procedures for the benefit of aerial archaeological data acquisition and analysis, I obtained the Ph.D. degree in May 2009. From 2010 onwards, I started as a part-time lecturer on archaeological methodology. My main activity is, however, as one of the senior researchers in the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Archaeological Prospection & Virtual Archaeology (LBI ArchPro, Vienna), where I take care of the acquisition and analysis of archaeologically relevant hyperspectral datasets. Besides, 3D data extraction and automated orthophoto production are important topics as well.

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

Both for personal and research aims, I use a variety of UAVs and non-motorised platforms such as balloons. The main aim is to take both oblique and vertical still and video imagery for automated 3D extraction and orthophoto production.
