Taylor Glenn replied to matemm06's discussion Methods and Software used for stand counts in Agricultural UAVs
"Hi Nasruddin,
I can't direct message you since we're not friends yet on the site. So I'm posting a reply here before I forget.
I'd be happy to take a look at your images. You can email them to me if they are small enough, or send me a link from…"

"Hi Martello,
I just sent you a direct message through the forum. I'd be very interested to see the mosaics you have and see what kind of results we can get.

"Hi Martin,

Thanks! Yes, it should work just fine with NIR images as well.
I would love to see your images and test against them. You can email me at tcg [at] precisionsilver.com,
or send me a PM through the DIYDrones site and we can arrange…"

"@Eric, @Cala Thanks!
Yes, we can certainly crop the image down to the center section to reduce any errors, and in general you can set a region of interest to process on."

"Hi Cala,

I was able to get some results on your sunflower image.

This one was very difficult. But it helped to improve my methods quite a bit, so thanks.
Like Morgan's corn image, there is a lot of perspective shift due to the wide angle lens.…"

Taylor Glenn replied to matemm06's discussion Methods and Software used for stand counts in Agricultural UAVs
"Hi Eric. Sure, that can be done. It requires having geo-referencing for the image/mosaic, so this usually means a GeoTiff file as opposed to just a .jpg. And if you want the coordinates to be really accurate you need to do some extra work in image…"

"That would be great! I'll take one of each. Feel free to send me a link on Dropbox or Google Drive. Or if you need it I can send an account to upload to.
I have gotten good results with corn and potato plants so far, but the soybeans I have seen I…"

"Hi Cala,
Thank you! This software is not commercially available yet, but I am working for it to be available soon.
I am happy to run a few images here or there for you or anyone who would like, this helps me to develop the software, but also if…"

"Hi Morgan,
I was able to get some good results from one of your corn images.

In this one, if you zoom in, you can make out the individual corn plants.

With this level of detail, we can do a pretty good job at automatically identifying and…"

"Cool. Sounds great!
Any format is fine, though GeoTiff is preferable if you have the georeferencing information.
Uncompresssed (raw/bitmaps) are better too, even at a 2cm/pixel GSD the compression will often start to blur the fine details that we…"

"Hi Morgan. I have some internal tools I have made for counting plants from high resolution imagery.
If you can resolve the individual plants in the imagery, then we can do a fairly accurate whole population count, with the main sources of error…"

"Yes, Aeriality currently only works with a single strip in a single direction.
Rotations will cause distortions. So, well, its not perfect yet... but at least its cheap =)
I'll make that limitation a bit more clear in the instructions for the…"

4xdones - The short answer is that no, DEM or point cloud data is not being produced as an output. It is possible to produce that data, but it would require some additional computation that is not being done currently.
The 3D…"
