Torin Segstro replied to Thomas Oldbury's discussion How interested would people be in a free, open source hardware/firmware graphical OSD?
"Great idea. Also providing Ardupilot/APM shield versions would make it quite popular. Perhaps with an I2C interface?"

Torin Segstro commented on Jason Short's blog post X-Plane HIL simulator, now with Auto Takeoff and Landing
"Serproxy with newlines_to_nils=false AND comm_baud=38400 worked great for me with Windows7 32bit. Having trouble with some of the flying modes on APM though, but better in the sim than in the air."

Torin Segstro commented on Chris Anderson's blog post Great story about the origins of FY Tech (and FY3ZT autopilot)
"I bought a FY21AP-II but haven't had the chance to fly it yet. However, I have been following the threads on RCgroups and the owners of FY-Tech are very responsive and helpful. Great to read of a success story around this type of product."

"I had the colored wire in the wrong spot. Here is a revised illustration of what I mean. Please let me know if I am off my rocker here"

Torin Segstro commented on Jani Hirvinen's photo
"Hi Jani,

It's not really the color that is the issue. It's that the illustration makes it look like APM ground goes to GPS Enable. I modified your illustration to, well, illustrate. Notice the twist in the wires"

Torin Segstro commented on Jani Hirvinen's photo
"I agree, the connector can only be put in one way. I just saw this and thought my GPS or APM had the connector on wrong, but it's fine. As long as people understand that the wires and the orientation of the boards as indicated in the illustration…"

Torin Segstro commented on Jani Hirvinen's photo
"Is it me or is this illustration wrong. The GPS should look like this:

When looking at this illustration GND for the GPS is at the bottom of the board and GND for the APM is at the top. The GPS should be upside down in this illustration."

"Good point - My screen resolution on my netbook is only 1024x600. However, he has provided the fla source files so it is possible to move/scale the components if you know actionscript 3."

"To be honest, I'm at the point where I may sit in the back of my Jeep (cherokee) and have the spotter outside. Less bugs, less sun, more available power."

"@Chris Anderson - Thanks Chris - I'll use alpha release and the libraries from Arducopter for the MTK GPS.
Much appreciated!"

"Actually, I found an interesting alternative - USB monitor with touchscreen:

A little pricey for a 7" monitor though."

Torin Segstro commented on Jason Short's photo
"This is a bit of a longshot, but I think it might be interesting. I have a small 7" monitor that runs on 12v. Currently I use it for FPV. What I'm thinking, is that I use my netbook to display this groundstation with analog guages, and use the…"
