The winners of the second International Drone Photography Contest, organized by social network Dronestagram with support from National Geographic, have been revealed!

Winning authors come from Brazil, France, USA, Mexico, Bulgaria & The Netherlands.

I was really amazed by the quality and the originality of most of the pictures we received from the participants of the 2015 edition of our great contest. Last year we had to make a choice among 2000 pictures. This year we had to review more than 5000 pictures in 3 categories: Places, Nature and "Dronies" (selfies made with drones) said Eric Dupin, Founder and CEO of Dronestagram.

The competition was judged on creativity, photographic quality and respect of the theme (show the beauty of your favorite places) by a panel of experts including National Geographic photographer Ken Geiger (Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer), Jean-Pierre Vrignaud, Editor in Chief of National Geographic France as well as Eric Dupin and Guillaume Jarret from Dronestagram.

Drone photography depicts a new vision of the world, with stunning images taken from low altitude, near field. It is a new photographic language and a new way of discovering things and landscapes that we know, or that we thought we knew.

The winning photo "Above the mist" published by Ricardo Matiello in Brazil is very representative of this new language. Only a drone allows to (re)discover and enjoy this cathedral from this point of view.

Eric Dupin added: Some people want to change the world, at Dronestagram we want to change the way we see the world.

So who won the first edition? Find out a preview below!

You can view pictures in landscape or portrait mode, swipe through like a photo album, 'Like' them, add them to your favorites, comment and of course share them on your favorite social networks.

3689640240?profile=original3689640296?profile=originalYou can also post a picture via a simplified form, a particularly convenient feature to publish a low altitude photo aerial in "Others" category (glider basejump, etc.) or post a photo directly caught from a GoPro or other action camera via WiFi, which makes the process much simpler when you just make a little image capture session with a drone.

If you already are a member of the site, you can log with your password to access your posts and your Likes within the app. It is also possible to explore the world seen from above by category or via the integrated search engine.

3689640384?profile=originalThe application is free. This is a first version, we already have a nice list of ideas and improvements to make it evolve, and the Android version is expected to follow this spring, with may be a few more features.

The winners of the first international drone photography contest, organized by social network Dronestagram, have been revealed!

Launched May 15 in a partnership with National Geographic, it is a successful first edition with over 1500 photos published and a global participation. Winning authors come from Indonesia, Singapore, Mexico, Bulgaria and France.

According to the members of the jury composed by Dronestagram and National Geographic France team, "picking winners was a very difficult task especially because of the great quality of the photos that have been submitted. We tried to reward the photos that show the best the fantastic potential offered by drones in terms of image. "

The "most amazing aerial view" price was won by an Indonesian drone pilot who managed the feat of shooting an eagle in flight. Very pleased to have won the first prize, the author told us the story of this great performance :

"The photo was taken on 2012, we were working on aerial photos for eco-tourism spot at Bali Barat National Park (west Bali, Indonesia) . We were taking vertical aerial photos using autopilot. Suddenly the eagle came and chasing our drones, so I decided to take over and switch to manual control. After few minutes we discovered that the eagle did not attack the drone but chasing and playing with it. So we decided to do manual fliying (with fpv) and make the eagle chase the drone and do maneuver so the eagle positioned just in front our camera.  So it just a huge luck and a perfect moment combination."

In addition to earning a DJI Phantom, a Go Pro and a printing of its photo, the winner will have the chance to be published first in National Geographic magazine, french version.

Very satisfied with this first edition, Dronestagram website is already working on similar projects to promote the work of drone enthusiasts.

The Great Drone Escape, a movie by Dronestagr.am

3689600888?profile=original

A few days ago, a package was delivered to the offices of Dronestagram. Inside, a usb key and the video testimony of a Canadian explaining having found a drone in a river of the Ontario region.
The memory card contained many videos of amazing landscapes.
After doing some research, it appears that the drone belongs to an Aussie who mysteriously lost control of his machine 11 months ago, on a beach near Sydney.
We tracked its path, we can say that it has certainly seen some of the country...

"Any resemblance to persons living or dead is purely coincidental ;-)" [1]

Prepare yourself to a 3-minutes vertigo! Enjoy!

[1] as you surely understood, this is a fake story, but the images are real!
