He's lucky LAX ATC didn't have the airforce scramble a couple trigger-happy jetjocks...
(post 9-11 may have a different ending).
Also relates to the discussions of the FAA and enforcement.
(I had seen something similiar on one of those amazing-video shows, but the idea was that the "pilot" had obtained clearance before hand)
