  • Conventional Helicopters have a 2 dimensional gyroscope directly mounted to the main rotor. Called a flybar, or main rotor, it spins, has weight, and contributes to in-flight stability.

    Quad-rotors get very little inherent stability from their spinning parts. - so they make up with 2 additional dimensions of electronic gyroscopes.
