Alternate powering method

I was wondering if there is a way to use the power module on Apm 2.5 but to not have it power the board. If I could I would like to power the board via a separate bec on the input rail then use another bec to power my servo via the output rail and use the module to get voltage readings. I would like to keep the apm and servos powered up if for some reason I run my motor battery out.

  • If I look here http://diydrones.com/forum/topics/apm2-5-5v-vcc-schematic and then look at the mystery port it looks like both power cables are tied together so I would need to cut them both, but if I did that I don't know if I would get voltage and current readings.
  • Hi Randy, I was thinking I wanted to power the apm with a seperate bec for two reasons one clean power source and second was that if for some reason I drained my motor battery I could still glide to safety with a powered apm and reciever.

    Alexander,

One of the wires from the power-module (probably the red one) will just be for providing power to the APM2.x.  I don't actually know why there are 6 wires on the power module...I can only think of a need for 4: GND, 5V, voltage sensing and current sensing.

To be honest, I don't know why you would want to use two BECs and not one Power Module + 1 BEC.  Basically the power module has a BEC in it so why not use it?
