If you go to Arducopter Pids and change Altitude Hold/Altitude Error:/P, it shows up immediately in the Arducopter Config/Altitude Hold/P spin-dial. 

BUT.... If you change Arducopter Config/Altitude Hold/P, it never shows up in Arducopter Pids/Altitude Hold: Altitude Error:/P, even after a write and refresh in the Arducopter Config screen.
