Another crash (why?!?) but I got my pics first

Hello UAV folk,

It’s a sad day. One minute it was running through an auto mission (the second run on the same flight plan minus 10m) taking pictures of an eroded gully, the next it just seemed to lose its will to fly and slumped over, falling out of the sky. Fortunately, I was able to switch to stabilize and pull it out of its fall. Unfortunately, because the conditions were such that I didn’t feel comfortable flying home and I was right above a bush I cut the throttle again and dropped it a few feet into said bush.  No harm was done and it now flies easily in stabilize mode.

I checked the tlog. The drop in elevation quickly followed by a  change in flight mode and spike in throttle is easy to spot. I checked for errors in mag, accel, vcc, GPS, and error codes  following the trouble shooting guide but I can’t find anything. Does the APM mental state get logged? My guess is that my poor hex just gave up on life.

I want to fly some missions over springs in the Mojave desert in a few weeks but I can’t figure out what went wrong and I don’t want to chance a failure from a greater height.

Hopefully one of you kind people will take a look at my tlog and let me know what you think

Thanks so much,

--Pete

It looks like the quadcopter experienced a 180 degree flip (in the roll direction) causing it to loose altitude.

I can't see anything in the logs that might have caused it. May have been a gust of wind?
