APM 2.5 Crash Effects

I had an accident and had a small structural rebuild to fix my 3DR Hexacopter up. A few arms and props and one motor. I did not properly solder a wire and had a catastrophic crash 3 minutes into my test flight which destroyed everything EXCEPT the PDB, the central plastic frame work and the APM 2.5. It crashed upside down into pavement. Ugg.

I completely rebuilt everything and moved to the Y configuration. I replaced all the motors with JDrones, installed the new GPS module and disabled the on-board compass.

It has been flying, but not nearly as nice as pre-crash. It continually tries to move backwards, even during position hold. I ran auto-trim and still it moves backwards.  Generally speaking, it just seems a little off.

I have not adjusted anything with respect to tweaking the configuration set-up. I did load new software, several times, to the APM.

Is it possible that a significant impact would have a permanent destabilizing effect on the APM?

  • Sounds like it thinks its not level or the copter is not balanced.

  • Hi, well the board could have been bent. That can happen. And/or the IMU/gyro chip can have come loose, but then it should most probably not work at all.

If some of your ESCs or motors are not as good as the others, the APM needs to compensate for that in one way or another to fly level again. It could be that reason too. Does something change if you move motors or ESCs around?
